Crystal Enterprise Migration Gaps:
Barriers, Functional Equivalents, and Work Arounds
Presented by: Chris Christian - CRC Business Solutions
Abstract:
Seagate Info to Crystal Enterprise Technical Forum
The Bay Area Crystal Decisions Users Group would like to host a Technical Forum to share migration questions, concerns, experiences, and solutions. The interactive workshop has only one purpose: to help each other understand, prepare for, and (if needed) remedy our system migrations from Seagate Info to Crystal Enterprise.
The overall topics are:
What are the migration steps?
How long does it take?
What are the pitfalls?
What are know problems and work-arounds?
Our technical resource will be Chris Christian, who, along with Adam Gentry of SBC, presented at the annual CDUGNA meeting in Vancouver to discuss SBC's migration experience. Chris has helped companys both large and small to migrate to Crystal Enterprise 8.5 and Crystal Enterprise 9.0.
Here's a sample of questions that can be discussed at the forum:
I've heard a lot of talk about Seagate Info features that aren't available in Crystal Enterprise. What's the nitty gritty on which Seagate Info features are still missing?
Should I migrate to CE 8.5 and then to CE 9.0, or should I migrate directly to 9.0? Should I wait for CE 10.0?
I don't have extra machines for the migration, so I don't have the luxury of migrating to a new machine. Can I migrate to Crystal Enterprise on the same machine I'm now using for Seagate Info? It's my production machine, so I can't bring it down for any extended period.
What things can I do with my Seagate Info system that will smooth the way for a successful migration to Crystal Enterprise?
After migrating to CE 9.0, some reports run fine, and others fail with an error message I don't understand. The system is configured correctly, and I can't see why some reports work and others don't. What's wrong?
